My HP Laserjet MFP M426 fdw says it has a paper jam and tells me to remove the cartridge to get to the jam. There is no paper there. I have tried unplugging and replugging but that doesn't help.l

Hello,

For these escenarios is recommendable to make sure there is no paper jam either in the tray assembly, the cartridge area and the rear door.
If you have already check and there is no paper jam, please follow these recommendations:

Make sure the printer is plugged directly into the wall outlet and not a surge protector or ups. This printers are meant to be connected directly to the wall outlet so they can receive the correct amount of voltage and distribute it to the internal components.
Make sure the paper type you are using is supported by the printer.
Here is a link for the data sheet including all the media supported by this printer.
HP LaserJet Pro MFP M426fdw DataSheet.
Make sure the paper settings are setup for the correct paper size and type to avoid future paper jams.
Setup Menu- System Setup- Paper Setup:
Tray 1: paper type and size (depending on the paper type and size you are using, normally this tray is used a multifunctional tray).
Tray 2: paper type and size (depending on the paper type and size you are using).

Make sure you are using hp original toner cartridges. The use of non hp cartridges can cause paper jams, print quality issues, noises, etc.

If the issue persist after you have already check that there is no actual jam and powercycle the printer, it might be necessary to start with some tests to confirm is the printer needs to be serviced.

If the printer is still under warranty you can call to our HP Tech Support Line: 1-800-334-5144, you can also call to check the out of warranty options.
Or you can check the nearest authorized service center.
