My printer does not acknowledge photo paper in the tray

I load photo paper in its tray but keep getting an error message to load paper

Mystery printer, unless the printer has a paper sensor to automatically read change in paper, must be told about the paper you have loaded into the tray.

Many printers do not have the sensor, in fact.

No, there is no way to force a printer without a sensor to sense the paper size / type.

This is one of those times when not knowing the printer model means the explanations are much longer.

If your printer includes a touchscreen Printer Control Panel, you can likely change / modify the paper size / type on the control panel right after the paper is loaded / changed or when you have opened and then closed the paper tray.

If your printer lacks any ability to interact with you about the paper size / type

AND

The printer does not automatically sense paper size and type changes,

AND

If the printer is on your network,

(then)

• (You may) Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to view and / or adjust the Tray and Paper Settings.
• After the printer knows about the paper - review / edit the print job setup.

Start - Tray and Paper

If you are using a DeskJet Printer, the Tray and Paper settings are different -- a Small, Medium, and Large setting trio is used to manage paper sizes and types.

Other printers are more precise > EWS Tray and Paper perhaps even allowing the selection size "Custom".

After the printer is aware of the Tray and Paper Settings,

Go to the app / job setup -

If the Paper Source is set to "automatic" and the printer cannot "see" the correct paper,

Select Source / Tray instead of letting the job configuration guess about the setting.
