Hi @filarayo9 ,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer. While I can't physically send someone to your location, I can certainly offer troubleshooting steps to try and resolve the issue. Here are suggestions:

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 2-3 minutes.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

Manually Move the Carriage:

  • Make sure the printer is turned off.
  • Gently move the ink carriage to the center of the printer. You can do this by carefully sliding it with your hand.

Check for Obstructions:

  • Examine the area around the carriage for any obstructions like bits of paper, debris, or foreign objects.
  • Make sure to check the entire paper path and inside the printer for any jammed paper.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.

Update Firmware:

  • Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. Visit the HP support website, find your printer model, and download the latest firmware if available.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Disconnect any USB or Ethernet cables.
  • Wait for about 30 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cable and turn on the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.-
