Hi @Debbie619,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP 5660 printer is displaying a message to load paper even though there is paper in the tray, you can try the following troubleshooting steps.
Check the Paper:
- Ensure the paper is properly loaded in the tray.
- Make sure the paper is not curled, wrinkled, or stuck together.
- Verify that the paper meets the printer’s specifications.
Adjust Paper Settings:
- Adjust the paper guides in the tray to fit the paper size.
- Ensure the paper tray is fully inserted into the printer.
Clean the Paper Rollers:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Open the access doors and locate the paper rollers.
- Use a lint-free cloth slightly moistened with distilled water to clean the rollers.
- Allow the rollers to dry completely before closing the printer and turning it back on.
Reset the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Check for Paper Jams:
- Open all access areas and check for any paper jams or obstructions.
- Remove any jammed paper carefully to avoid tearing it.

Update Firmware and Drivers:
- Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. You can check for updates on the HP Support website.
- Update the printer drivers on your computer.
Test with Different Paper:
- Try loading a different type or brand of paper to see if the issue persists.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and reconnect it to the printer.
- Turn on the printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
