Hi @Car111,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your printer’s ink cartridge is moving back and forth and making loud noises, it could indicate a mechanical issue or a problem with the cartridges themselves. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot this issue:

1. Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on again. This can sometimes reset any temporary issues.

2. Check for Obstructions:

  • Open the printer cover and check for any paper jams or foreign objects that might be blocking the cartridge movement. Remove any obstructions carefully.

3. Inspect the Cartridges:

  • Ensure that the ink cartridges are properly installed. Remove them and reinstall them, making sure they click securely into place.

4. Clean the Cartridge Contacts:

  • Use a lint-free cloth or cotton swab to gently clean the copper contacts on the cartridges and the print head. Dirt or ink residue can cause communication issues.

5. Check for Damage:

  • Inspect the cartridges for any visible damage, such as cracks or leaks. If a cartridge is damaged, it may need to be replaced.

6. Listen for Errors:

  • Pay attention to any specific error messages or blinking lights on the printer. Consult your printer’s manual for troubleshooting steps based on those indicators.

7. Perform a Printer Reset:

  • If available, perform a factory reset on the printer. Check the user manual for specific instructions on how to do this for your model.

8. Update Firmware:

  • Check the printer manufacturer’s website for any firmware updates that may address known issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
