Hi @tcpeebles,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've already gone through several troubleshooting steps for your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer, but the issue persists. If you're still experiencing problems, you may want to try the following steps.

  • Update Firmware/Drivers: Make sure your printer has the latest firmware and drivers installed. Visit the official HP website to download and install the latest updates for your printer model.
  • Check for Software Conflicts: Ensure that there are no conflicts with other software on your computer. Sometimes, third-party antivirus or firewall software can interfere with printer functionality.
  • Check for Windows Updates: Ensure that your operating system is up to date with the latest Windows updates.
  • HP Print and Scan Doctor: Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor, a diagnostic tool provided by HP. It can help identify and resolve common printing issues.
  • Reinstall Printer Software: Uninstall the printer software completely from your computer, restart the computer, and then reinstall the latest software from the official HP website.
  • Check for Hardware Issues: Make sure there are no hardware issues with the printer. Check for any visible obstructions, and ensure that all connections are secure.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
