HP OfficeJet Pro 7720 Wide Format All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

When printing A4 duplex (flip on long side), a vertical offset of ca. 7mm to all odd pages is wrongly added ... i.e. odd pages appear 7mm LOWER on the sheet as they should, whereas even pages appear correctly aligned on the backside of the sheets. When the same documents are printed simplex, odd and even pages are printed with the same (nearly correct) vertical placement. This seems to be independent from the application which is printing (MS Word, Firefox, Outlook etc.).

In all tested apps where page previews are available, the upper margin has checked to be identical for all pages - odd and even. Using Win11, I trust I have updated my drivers and printer firmware to the latest.

Any ideas how to get rid of this annoying "feature"?

Thanks

Mike

Hi @MDauda,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've already taken some good troubleshooting steps, such as updating your drivers and printer firmware. Since the issue seems to persist across different applications and is specific to duplex printing on the long side, it might be worth trying a few additional troubleshooting steps.

  • Printer Settings: Double-check the printer settings in your print dialog box to ensure that the correct paper size (A4) and duplex settings (flip on long side) are selected.
  • Margins: Even though you've mentioned that the page previews show identical upper margins for odd and even pages, it's still worth checking the margins within your document to ensure there are no inconsistencies there.
  • Paper Alignment: Check that the paper guides in the paper tray are adjusted correctly for A4 paper. Sometimes, misaligned paper guides can cause printing issues.
  • Calibration: Some printers offer a calibration option in their settings menu. You might want to explore if your printer has such an option and run a calibration to see if it resolves the alignment issue.
  • Printer Maintenance: Perform any available maintenance tasks on your printer, such as cleaning the printheads or aligning the cartridges. Sometimes, print quality issues can be resolved through routine maintenance.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
