Officejet 4650 all in one printer series

False paper jam error keeps popping up. I have cleaned the feed rollers and checked all possible areas for jammed paper and there is nothing. I have turned it off and on and disconnected the power cord to no avail. The firmware is updated to the current version. How do I perform a factory reset?

Welcome to the HP support community.

Make sure the carriage can move freely

  1. Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.

  2. Gently grasp the handles on either side of the printer, and then raise the ink cartridge access door until it locks into place.

The carriage moves to the center of the printer.

  3. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before you continue.

  4. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

  5. Use a flashlight to check for any paper or objects that might be restricting the carriage, and then remove any paper or objects that you find.

  6. Reach inside the printer through the ink cartridge access door, and then manually move the carriage.

    • If the carriage is stuck on the right side of the printer, move the carriage to the left side of the printer.

    • If the carriage is stuck on the left side of the printer, move the carriage to the right side of the printer.

    • If the carriage is stuck in the middle of the printer, move the carriage to the right side of the printer.

  7. Remove any paper or obstructions found.

  8. Make sure the carriage can move freely across the width of the printer. Firmly push the carriage to the left side of the printer, and then push it to the right side.

  9. Close the ink cartridge access door.

  10. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer, and then turn on the printer.

I'm having the same problem. The carriage is perfectly freely moving. There is absolutely no sign of a paper jam anywhere. It will print one page without issue, then a minute later give me the paper jam error when I try to print another page.

I have tried unplugging while the printer is on, waiting, plugging back in. I'm at my wits end.

Same issue with my OfficeJet Pro 6978. I think it's related to the defective 902 ink cartridges, and the printer detecting that I'm trying to use non-HP ink (only because the HP 902 cartridges have been out of stock for weeks). I've even taken it to a repair shop for a complete cleaning. It's infuriating that this otherwise perfectly fine printer won't print!
