HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 All-in-One Printer

I have been trying to print 200gsm A4 photo paper (Kodak, labelled as suitable for inkjet printers) but every time I try it jams in the printer. I have followed every tip on this forum but to no avail. I am considering buying some thinner (100gsm) photo paper to see if this fixes the issue. Any other ideas out there?

Hi @mghb5,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the 200gsm A4 photo paper might be too thick for the HP Officejet 8715, especially when feeding multiple sheets at once. Here are a few additional tips to help resolve the paper jam issue.

  • Check Paper Tray Settings: Make sure the paper tray is set to the correct paper size and type (A4 photo paper). This ensures that the printer adjusts its feed mechanism accordingly.
  • Adjust Paper Guides: Ensure the paper guides in the tray are adjusted properly to fit the photo paper. If the paper is not aligned correctly, it could cause jams.
  • Use the Rear Paper Feed Slot: The rear paper feed on your printer may provide a straighter path for thicker paper, which can help prevent jams. Try feeding your photo paper through this slot instead of the main tray.
  • Feed One Sheet at a Time: For thicker paper like 200gsm, try feeding only one sheet at a time to reduce the strain on the paper path and reduce the likelihood of jams.
  • Reduce the Paper Stack: If you're printing a large batch, try loading fewer sheets at a time to ensure smoother feeding.
  • Check for Debris: Make sure there are no small bits of paper or ink inside the paper feed area that could be causing a jam.
  • Try Thinner Paper: If you continue to experience jams despite these adjustments, switching to thinner photo paper (like 100gsm or 150gsm) could be a good alternative. Thicker paper may cause more strain on the printer's feeding mechanism, particularly with inkjet printers.

By combining some of these techniques, you should be able to reduce or eliminate the paper jams.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
