Hey

I'm trying to print on A5 copy paper and it jams up inside the printer. Am I doing something wrong?

@Snillingur, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Sorry to hear you're having trouble printing on A5 paper with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e. Paper jams can be frustrating, but I’ll walk you through the steps to help resolve this.

Check Paper Compatibility

  • The HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e supports A5 paper, but it’s important to use good quality, flat, and undamaged A5 sheets.
  • Avoid overloading the tray, load only 10–25 sheets of A5 paper at a time.

Load A5 Paper Correctly

  • Pull out the input tray completely.
  • Adjust the paper width guides snugly against the A5 paper without bending it.
  • Make sure the paper is aligned properly and not curled or wrinkled.

Set Paper Size in Printer Settings

  • On the printer’s touchscreen:
    • Go to Settings > Paper Setup > Tray 1 > Paper Size.
    • Select A5 and confirm.
  • On your computer:
    • When printing, go to Print Settings > Paper Size and choose A5.

Update Firmware and Drivers

Clear Any Existing Jams

  • Open the rear access door and gently remove any jammed paper.
  • Check inside the input and output trays as well.

Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and power it on.

Additional Tips

  • Avoid mixing paper sizes in the tray.
  • Fan the stack of A5 paper before loading to prevent sheets from sticking together.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
