I have an HP officejet Pro 8620 printer,   I have changed the paper thousands of time with no problem.    Now I can't get the paper tray to go in all the way,   It seems like it is hitting something after it goes in about 80 % of the way.  I have looked inside the opening with a flashlight and saw nothing that would seem to be blocking the tray.    I am stumped after numerous trys

Hi @mjt34 ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're having trouble with the paper tray on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8620, here are steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

Check for Obstructions:

  • Use a flashlight to carefully inspect the paper tray area for any foreign objects or debris that might be causing the tray to get stuck.
  • Check both the front and back of the printer for any obstacles.

Ensure Proper Alignment:

  • Make sure the paper tray is aligned correctly with the printer. It should slide in smoothly without any tilting or misalignment.
  • Check for any visible misalignment issues.

Examine Tray Guides:

  • Inspect the guides on the paper tray and inside the printer. Sometimes, these guides can become misaligned or bent, causing issues with tray insertion.
  • Gently adjust the guides to ensure they are in the correct position.

Try Different Paper:

  • Sometimes, using a different type or size of paper can help diagnose the issue. Try using a different type or size of paper to see if the problem persists.

Inspect Paper Tray Rollers:

  • Look for any issues with the rollers in the paper tray. Make sure they are clean and free of any debris.
  • If there are any visible issues with the rollers, you may need to clean or replace them.

Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve mechanical issues.

Update Firmware/Driver:

  • Check if there are any firmware or driver updates available for your printer on the HP support website. Updating the firmware or driver may resolve compatibility issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.-
