I am getting a paper jam error message.  I have removed the tray to ensure there is no paper stuck in printer.  I have cycled it on and off several times.  Any suggestions?

Hi @dewjr655,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're still experiencing a paper jam error message after cycling the printer on and off and ensuring there's no paper stuck inside, here are some additional steps you can try to resolve the issue.

  • Check for paper jams in other areas: Even if you've already checked the paper tray, there could still be paper jammed in other parts of the printer such as the rear access door, the duplexer (if your printer has one), or the print carriage area. Carefully inspect these areas and remove any jammed paper.
  • Clear any obstructions: Sometimes, small pieces of paper or debris can get stuck in the printer's rollers or other mechanisms, causing paper jams. Use a flashlight to thoroughly examine the printer's interior and remove any obstructions you find.
  • Reset the printer: Try performing a hard reset of the printer by unplugging it from the power source, waiting for about 1-2 minutes, and then plugging it back in. This can sometimes clear temporary errors and resolve paper jam issues.
  • Update printer firmware: Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. Sometimes, firmware updates include fixes for common issues like paper jams.
  • Check for damaged parts: Inspect the paper tray, rollers, and other moving parts for any signs of damage or wear. If you notice any damaged components, they may need to be replaced.

By following these steps, you should hopefully be able to resolve the paper jam error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
