I purchased an hp laserjet pro mfp 3101fdw printer in May 2024.  It is saying paper is jammed in the cartridge area.

I followed instructions and there is no paper.  I turned off printer and discharged it and it will not go away.  I also updated the firmware.

Thank you

Hi @Jessie65,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP LaserJet Pro MFP 3101fdw is still showing a paper jam error despite having no paper visibly jammed, here are a few additional troubleshooting steps you can try.

  • Check for Small Bits of Paper: Sometimes, small pieces of paper or debris can cause a jam. Carefully inspect all areas where paper might pass through, including inside the cartridge area and the paper trays.
  • Open and Close All Doors: Ensure that all access doors and paper trays are fully closed and latched. Sometimes, the printer can detect an open door or tray as a paper jam.
  • Remove and Reinsert the Toner Cartridge: Turn off the printer, remove the toner cartridge, and then reinsert it, making sure it's seated properly.
  • Check the Paper Path: Look inside the printer for any obstructions or foreign objects in the paper path. Use a flashlight if necessary.
  • Clean the Printer: Dust and debris can sometimes cause sensor issues. Gently clean the interior of the printer with a soft, lint-free cloth.
  • Reset the Printer: Perform a hard reset by turning off the printer, unplugging it from the power source, waiting for about 60 seconds, and then plugging it back in and turning it on.
  • Check for Firmware Updates: Although you've updated the firmware, ensure you have the latest version. Sometimes, an additional update might be available or necessary.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
