Hi @erikjansens,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I'm sorry to hear about the unexpected printing issue with your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M181fw—this can be frustrating and disruptive. Let's work on resolving this.

  • Have you recently installed or updated any printer software or connected the printer to new devices?
  • Is your printer connected directly to your computer, a network, or via a shared connection (like Wi-Fi or cloud)?
  • Do you notice this behavior occurring after a specific action, like opening an application or turning the printer on?

Let's try these steps.

Restart Printer and Network Devices:

  • Turn off your printer, router, and any connected devices. Wait 1–2 minutes, then turn them back on. This may reset any errant processes causing the issue.

Check for Unauthorized Access:

  • If your printer is network-connected, verify that it’s only accessible by authorized devices.
  • Change your printer’s network password or set it to private to prevent potential external triggers.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Go to the HP Support website and download the latest firmware update for your printer. Outdated firmware can sometimes cause unusual behavior.

Clear Printer Queue and Reset Settings:

  • On your computer, clear all pending print jobs.
  • Perform a factory reset on the printer by navigating to the setup menu on the control panel (refer to your user manual for detailed steps).

Disable Cloud or IPP Services:

  • Check your printer's settings for Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) or cloud printing services. If enabled, turn them off unless needed, as these may inadvertently receive external print commands.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
