HP Laser Jet M203dw

I had a paper jam and to clear had to take out the drum and ink cartridge - and I also took out this piece which goes at the top of the feeder area - see pictures.  I can't get it back in.  It goes above the yellow warning script, and it came out really easily - but I can't get it back in and printer won't print without it.  Any help would be appreciated.HP2.jpgHP3.jpghp1.jpg

Hi @Caroline322,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've encountered a common issue where a component of the HP LaserJet M203dw has been removed during a paper jam, and now it won't go back into place. Based on your description, this piece likely serves a specific function in the paper feed mechanism, and proper reinstallation is crucial for the printer to function correctly.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you reassemble the component:

**1. Identify the Component

From your description, the component you're referring to is likely the paper feed roller assembly or a similar part that helps guide the paper through the printer. It typically sits at the top of the feeder area.

**2. Consult the Printer Manual

  • Manual Reference: Refer to the HP LaserJet M203dw user manual or service guide. Manuals often have diagrams and instructions for reassembling parts. You can find the manual on HP’s official website or in the documentation that came with the printer.

**3. Reinstall the Component

Align the Piece: Align the component with the slots or guides where it needs to be placed. It should fit snugly into place.

  • Top of the Feeder Area: Look for any hooks or guides where the component would naturally fit.
  • Yellow Warning Script: Ensure that the piece is placed above the yellow warning script as it originally was. It might have a specific orientation or alignment.

Gentle Pressure: Apply gentle pressure to push the component back into place. Avoid forcing it, as this could damage the printer.

**4. Check for Obstructions

  • Clear Obstructions: Ensure there are no paper scraps or other obstructions in the feeder area that could be blocking the component from seating correctly.

**5. Verify Proper Installation

  • Even Alignment: Ensure that the component is evenly aligned and that it is not sticking out. It should be flush with the surrounding area.
  • Test Movement: Manually rotate any rollers or parts that move to check that they operate smoothly.

**6. Perform a Printer Reset

  • Power Cycle: Once the component is reinstalled, power cycle the printer by turning it off, waiting for a few moments, and then turning it back on. This can help the printer recognize the reinstalled part.

**7. Check for Error Messages

  • Error Indicators: If there are any error messages or warning lights on the printer, consult the manual for their meanings and further troubleshooting steps.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
