HP ENVY Inspire 7955e All-in-One Printer

Photo tray shot it is blocked. I checked for all obstructions, it is clear. When it tries to sear itself into position, I get a loud, whirring sound, showing message to correct photo tray position. What is causing this malfunction?

Thanks for your help.

Hi @sieto10, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue with your HP ENVY Inspire 7955e All-in-One Printer, where the photo tray is blocked despite being clear of obstructions, is likely caused by one of the following reasons:

Possible Causes & Solutions:

Misaligned or Improperly Seated Photo Tray

  • Remove the photo tray completely.
  • Ensure it is properly aligned with the guides.
  • Reinsert it firmly but gently, making sure it is pushed all the way in.

Dirty or Worn Rollers

  • The rollers responsible for moving the photo tray might be dirty or worn.
  • Open the printer and use a lint-free cloth with distilled water to clean the rollers.
  • Let them dry before reinserting the tray.

Obstructed Gears or Mechanism

  • The whirring noise suggests the tray motor might be struggling to move.
  • Check if there are any small foreign objects (like dust, paper bits, or debris) inside the tray mechanism.
  • Gently move the tray by hand to see if it encounters resistance.

Software or Firmware Glitch

  • Sometimes, a firmware issue can cause tray alignment errors.
  • Update the printer firmware:

Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it for 2-3 minutes.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on to see if the issue resolves.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
