Photosmart C4180 paper jam error but no paper!

I noticed if I restart the printer it usually resolves this weird seemingly firmware issue or something. 

It will take the paper like it's about to print but then spit it halfway out and pop up a message either that there's a jam or that I need to feed it paper and when I hit okay it just pushes the paper through then we're at square one and it will do it again til I restart the printer.

Any possible solutions?

I understand that you are getting a false paper jam error, I am glad to assist you.

Perform a power reset , Reset the printer to recover from printer errors or failures.

1. Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
4. Wait at least 30 seconds.
5. Plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet and printer without any surge protector.
6. Turn on the printer.

Update the printer firmware to install the latest updates
