HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-in-One Printer

Hello! When I turn on the printer, it first does printer maintenance like normal, then says paper jam and then says print failure and to turn it off and back on but it keeps doing the same thing. I’m not sure what else to do besides maybe reset it but I don’t know how to do that. Thank you in advance for the help.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 is encountering a persistent paper jam and Print failure issue. 

 

Here are some steps you can try to resolve it:

 

  • Check for Jammed Paper: Open all access doors and trays of the printer and carefully check for any jammed paper. Even a small scrap of paper can cause the printer to register a jam.
  • Remove Paper Tray: Remove the paper tray and check for any obstructions or paper jams within it.
  • Inspect Paper Path: Use a flashlight to carefully inspect the entire paper path for any torn scraps of paper or other debris. This includes the input tray, output tray, and any other accessible areas.
  • Clear Paper Path: If you find any jammed paper or debris, carefully remove it. Be sure to follow any instructions provided in the printer manual for safe removal of paper jams.
  • Reset Printer: Sometimes, a simple power cycle can resolve issues. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a few minutes. Then, plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Update Firmware: Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. Sometimes, firmware updates address known issues and bugs.
  • Reset Printer Settings: If the issue persists, you may try resetting the printer to its default settings. Refer to the printer manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.
