Printed pages end up on the floor

I have the HP2723e. It works fine with one annoying exception. The printed pages all end up on the floor. I can find no tray to catch the pages as they come out of the printer so irritating!

am I missing something?

Unlikely, though the little tray extender is small -- 

It is supposed to work and might do so at least for a few pages of regular sized paper.
