I have been getting repeated error messages on HP Smart app  - Low on Paper, Printer needs attention - despite having carefully loaded paper and cleaned the rollers. The printer will not print at all. This has been happening over the last few months, and I cannot find any help. I tried to contact HP but was always directed to paper jam. I don't have  a paper jam.

Can anyone help? I noticed a previous similar issue where the printer just had to be replaced?

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand that you are getting out of paper on the printer, I am glad to assist you.

Reset the printer

Sometimes an error persists even though there is no paper feed issue. Reset the printer, and then try to print.

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.

  2. Unplug the power cord from the power source.

  3. Wait 60 seconds.

  4. Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.

  5. NOTE: HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

Update the printer firmware to install the latest updates

I've tried the full reset process, a couple of times, but the problem persists.  The printer runs normally, and the paper pull step is the first step.  It is "catching" with a loud grinding noise, then the error code displays, and the carriage then proceeds to move smoothly acrosss from to left as normal, but "out of paper error" displays.  This is a recent phenomenon, since I've had this HP5610 for years and it must have printer a thousand copies successfully in its life.  I've cleaned all the rollers, and the pickup roller and the paper out roller in the bottom of the printer are both fully in place and move normally when paper is inserted.

Any ideas?

I’ve already posted this feedback directly.

I tried the reset a couple of times but printer then wouldn’t connect to my Wi-Fi and still had flashing paper error on printer. After hours and hours spent trying to solve this paper issue and other connection problems I have given up, cancelled Instant Ink, ditched the printer and bought a Canon which is easy to use, connect and cheaper. Will never buy HP again. Goodbye HP

I understand the frustration, but I'm stubborn and I believe that this printer is just a machine and machines break or wear out,, but they are still machines.  Therefore if I fix whatever is broken or worn out, they will continue to perform...

So, does anyone know what part is worn out or broken to produce the problem I'm having with this HP5610 printer?
