HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 All-in-One Printer

Printer is printing partially and saying that the in carriage cannot move due to paper jam but there is no jam. After a few tries, it did print but it had lines through it. Then tried again and got the error message again.

This error can be caused by a dirty encoder strip. This plastic strip has a fine grid printed on it that allows the printer to know where the print head is. The strip the width of the printer and to clean it you use a soft cloth dampened with water. If you gently wipe the strip and the cloth is stained with ink there is an excellent chance that this is the problem Clean the entire strip, let dry and then try printing again. Be gentle as you can damage the strip by using too much pressure.
