When my printer's out of paper during printing, I add paper & restart at the printer. It finishes, but I can't get rid of the error on my phone. I found I have to hit continue, then it prints the document again. Waste of paper.  If I hit cancel, the error doesn't go away, even though I reset my phone. Seems communications aren't working. Is this the printer not sending to the phone, or maybe the phone isn't getting the message?

Welcome to the HP Community --

Check your printer's user manual.

Many printers warn you to avoid disturbing the paper tray to add paper while a job is printing.

True - this means you must check the paper stack ahead of time.

The section might be named "Load Paper" or perhaps "Load Media"

Search the Table of Contents to find a suitable starting place for your search.

Sample user manual entry:

Load a stack of paper into the tray.
NOTE:
● Remove any paper before loading a different paper type or size.
● Do not load paper while the printer is printing.
