I recently enrolled in the instant ink program. The 1st time I went to print after enrolling I kept getting an error saying I wasn't using the right paper. I had selected the correct type of paper. I had printed with this paper the day before. Now it refuses to print on anything except thin plain copy paper. Did enrolling in instant ink & paper from HP change my printer settings? I have to be able to use this paper for work & it is a giant inconvenience.

Hi @Emia,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Enrolling in an ink subscription program like HP Instant Ink should not directly change your printer settings, including paper type compatibility. However, there could be a few reasons why you're experiencing issues with specific paper types after enrolling in Instant Ink.

Printer Software Update:

  • It's possible that your printer received a software update around the time you enrolled in Instant Ink. Updates can sometimes affect printer settings or introduce new features.

Paper Type Settings:

  • Check your printer settings to ensure that the correct paper type is selected. Sometimes, the settings might revert to default values or get changed unintentionally.

Driver Issues:

  • Ensure that your printer drivers are up-to-date. You can visit the printer manufacturer's website to download the latest drivers for your printer model.

Instant Ink Profile:

  • Verify the details of your HP Instant Ink account online. There might be settings or preferences related to paper type in your account settings.

Here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue.

Check Printer Settings:

  • Go to your printer settings on your computer and verify that the correct paper type is selected. Make sure it matches the type of paper you are using.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Visit the official website of your printer manufacturer and download the latest drivers for your printer model. Install them on your computer.

Inspect Instant Ink Account:

  • Log in to your HP Instant Ink account online and check if there are any settings related to paper type. Ensure that your account profile reflects your printing preferences accurately.

Paper Loading:

  • Ensure that the paper is loaded correctly in the printer. If the paper is not feeding properly, it may result in errors.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
