HP Color LaserJet Enterprise M751dn
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, our CLJ M751 don't want to print from tray 2 even if we in the settings say that it should be tray 2. The printer says out of paper and wants us to put in paper in tray 1. Have checked all settings I can find, reinstalled drivers, updated firmware in the printer but no success.

It has been working good for some months until now.

Any ideas?

Just to clarify, if you load paper in the tray and close the tray, does the printer recognize you have paper loaded? If not, then you might have a broken sensor in the tray. Also, remove the tray and check the tray cavity closely, as we have had cases where a piece of paper gets behind the tray and blocks the sensors. If the printer does recognize that you have paper loaded then it might be that you have a size or type mismatch and the printer is asking for the correct paper to be loaded in tray 1.

Hi Repairatrooper, found out this week that we had another HP printer with the same problem, a HP LaserJet M601... strange...

I have tested all I can think about without finding the fault and if we now had one more printer with the same fault it is probably not any hardware fault. So I started to search for other solutions and in many places, I was directed to the "HP Print and Scan Doctor" so after a while, I tested this out and guess what!? It worked! It stopped at port matching (translated from Swedish word portmatchning).

The software "repaired" at port matching and now it's working. Not sure for how long but it has been working since late yesterday now. 🤞It must have been something with a windows update or some other software-related fault that has changed something in the drivers I assume...
