HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Printer is an HP OfficeJet Pro 8720.  Feed jams when trying to print a single, standard check.  Doesn't seem to be any way to manually feed paper to print.

@Laserbeam1, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 - Check Printing Feed Jam Issue on Windows 11!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like the printer is having trouble feeding a single check properly. Here are some troubleshooting steps to fix the issue:

1. Use the Correct Paper Tray and Settings

  • The HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 does not have a manual feed slot, so checks should be placed in Tray 1 (Main Input Tray).
  • Ensure the check is loaded properly, aligned to the right side with the width guides snug but not too tight.
  • In the print settings, choose "Envelope" or "Custom Size" as the paper type, depending on the check dimensions.

2. Adjust Printer Preferences

  • Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on the HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 and select Printing Preferences.
  • Under the Paper/Quality tab, set Media Type to "Envelope" or a similar custom paper size.
  • Make sure Paper Source is set to Tray 1.

3. Check for Paper Jams

  • Open the input and output trays and remove any stuck paper.
  • Inspect the duplexer (rear door) for hidden jams.
  • Clean the paper rollers using a lint-free cloth and distilled water.

4. Try a Workaround for Single-Page Printing

Since the printer is designed for multiple-page feeding, a workaround is:

  • Place a few blank sheets of standard paper behind the check in the tray. This may help the printer pick up the check properly.

5. Update Firmware and Drivers

  • Go to HP Support and check for any firmware updates.
  • Install the latest drivers for Windows 11.

If the issue persists, let me know what error message (if any) appears, and I can suggest further steps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

What are the dimensions of the cheque? Have you compared that to the supported sizes to ensure it is big enough to feed properly?
