HP ENVY 5640 e-All-in-One Printer
Other

IOS 15.4. Apple mac book air.

Yesterday it was printing with no problem from both mobile & laptop. Today it tells me it’s out of paper when it isn’t.  Can get info sheets of the HP to print but it won’t print from neither mobile nor laptop PDF’s docs sent by email nor from website.  Just don’t know what to do, getting to the point where I want to chuck it in the bin through frustration. All ideas welcome.

Hi @2noels,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Verify Paper Tray:

  • Ensure that there is indeed paper loaded in the paper tray.
  • Check that the paper is properly aligned and not jammed inside the printer.
  • Make sure the paper size and type are set correctly in the printer settings.

Check the Paper and Print Settings:

  • Examine your print settings on both your mobile device and MacBook to ensure they match the size and type of paper in the tray.

Adjust Paper Guides:

  • Ensure that the paper guides are snug against the edges of the paper stack without bending it.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn the printer off and disconnect the power cord. Wait for a minute, plug the power cord back in, and turn the printer on. This can sometimes clear error states.

Check for Software Updates:

  • Make sure you have the latest firmware for your HP ENVY 5640 printer. You can check for updates through the HP Smart app or HP’s support website.

Reinstall the Printer Driver:

  • Sometimes reinstalling the printer driver can resolve issues. Remove the printer from your devices list on your MacBook and add it again to reinstall the driver.

Clean the Rollers:

  • Dust or debris on paper feed rollers can cause these kinds of issues. Refer to the user manual for guidance on cleaning the paper feed rollers of your printer.

Perform a Self-Test:

  • Use the printer's built-in tools to perform a self-test. If the self-test works, it might indicate a software rather than hardware issue.
    I hope this helps.
