Hi @Fisherman76,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're encountering issues with your HP Envy 5000 series printer when trying to print from your Chromebook, there could be a variety of reasons for this problem. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Check Printer Connection:

  • Ensure that your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Chromebook.
  • Make sure that your printer is turned on and has paper and ink or toner.

Restart Both Devices:

  • Try turning off both your Chromebook and your HP Envy 5000 printer. Then, turn them back on and attempt to print again.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Check if there are any firmware updates available for your HP Envy 5000 series printer on the HP support website. Updating the printer's firmware may resolve compatibility issues.

Check for Chromebook Updates:

  • Make sure your Chromebook's operating system is up to date. Chrome OS updates can sometimes include printer compatibility fixes.

Reconnect the Printer:

  • Sometimes, removing and re-adding the printer can help. On your Chromebook, go to "Settings" > "Advanced" > "Printing" > "Add printer." Select your HP Envy 5000 printer from the list and follow the setup instructions.

Clear Print Queue:

  • Go to "Settings" > "Advanced" > "Printing" > "Manage printers." Find your HP Envy 5000 printer and click on it. Then, click on "See what's printing" and cancel any pending print jobs.

Check for Print Errors:

  • Look for any error messages or notifications on the printer's display panel or the Chromebook. This might provide clues about the issue.

Print a Test Page:

  • Try printing a test page directly from your printer (if it has a control panel with this option). This can help determine if the issue is with the printer itself.

Check Printer Settings:

  • Ensure that the printer settings (e.g., paper size, print quality) on your Chromebook match the settings on your HP Envy 5000 printer.

Use Google Cloud Print (if available):

  • If your printer supports Google Cloud Print, you can set it up to print via the cloud. This can sometimes bypass local connectivity issues.

Check for Network Issues:

  • Ensure there are no network problems that might be causing interruptions in the printing process.

Reset Network Settings:

  • If you suspect a network issue, you can try resetting the network settings on your Chromebook and then reconnecting to your Wi-Fi network.

Check for Printer Software on Chromebook:

  • Sometimes, Chrome OS might not have the necessary printer drivers. Check if there are any specific HP Envy 5000 series printer drivers or apps available in the Chrome Web Store.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for your advice. Through trial and error I discovered that the reason I couldn't print was nothing to do with printer connectivity but it was the document itself. I could print any of the pdf docs apart from one which produced the error message. How can that happen?
