Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a HP Officejet Pro 7740 - everything works but the scan.  When I place document in the feeder to scan nothing happens.  I know the rollers work because I can copy the same document with the document feeder.

There is a USB port under the screen, insert USB stick and try scan directly to USB to see will it scan from ADF without a computer.

Thank you for that suggestion - I did that and it worked fine.  So why can't I scan to the computer?

That confirms your scanner is fine. The problem is on your computer, I would recommend you reinstall the print and scan driver using the latest drivers from hp.com
