Hi @kansasnuts,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If the top feeder (automatic document feeder) on your HP ENVY 7855 is not accepting paper for copying or scanning, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:
1. Check Paper Type and Size:
- Ensure you’re using the correct type and size of paper recommended for the automatic document feeder. Standard paper is usually best.
2. Inspect the Paper Path:
- Open the top feeder and check for any obstructions or jammed paper. Remove any stuck paper carefully.
3. Clean the Feeder Rollers:
- Dust or debris can cause feeding issues. Use a lint-free cloth slightly moistened with water to gently clean the rollers inside the feeder.
4. Adjust Paper Guides:
- Ensure the paper guides inside the feeder are properly adjusted to fit the width of the paper. They should not be too loose or too tight.
5. Test with Fewer Sheets:
- If you’re loading a stack of paper, try reducing the number of sheets. Sometimes, too many sheets can cause feeding problems.
6. Check for Firmware Updates:
- Visit the HP support website to see if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Sometimes, updates can fix issues.
7. Perform a Power Reset:
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source for about a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on again.
8. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool, which can help diagnose and fix printing issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
