Hi @PETER202490 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M28-M31 not pulling paper for printing, the issue could be caused by one or more of the following reasons:

1. Paper Tray or Feed Issue

  • Incorrect Paper Loading: Ensure the paper is properly aligned in the tray and not overfilled. The paper guides should snugly fit the edges of the paper without bending it.
  • Paper Quality: Check that you are using paper within the printer's specifications. Avoid using damp, wrinkled, or curled paper.
  • Paper Size Mismatch: Ensure the paper size matches the printer settings and what the document specifies.

2. Dirty or Worn Rollers

  • Paper rollers inside the printer may have accumulated dust or become worn out, causing them to lose grip.
  • Solution:
    1. Turn off the printer and unplug it.
    2. Open the paper tray or access area.
    3. Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to clean the rollers.
    4. Allow them to dry before reinserting the paper tray and turning on the printer.

3. Jammed Paper or Debris

  • Even small scraps of paper or debris can prevent the printer from feeding paper.
  • Solution:
    1. Check for paper jams in the paper tray, rear access, and input/output rollers.
    2. Remove any stuck paper carefully without tearing it.

4. Incorrect Paper Settings

  • If the printer settings in the software or control panel don’t match the paper loaded, the printer might fail to pull the paper.
  • Solution:
    1. Verify the paper size and type in the print settings on your computer or mobile device.
    2. Adjust the settings to match the loaded paper.

5. Mechanical Issue

  • If the above steps don’t resolve the issue, there might be a mechanical problem with the paper feed mechanism or sensors.
  • Solution:
    • Perform a printer reset:
      1. Turn off the printer and unplug it for at least 60 seconds.
      2. Plug it back in and turn it on.
    • If the issue persists, you might need to contact HP Support for repair or replacement of internal components.

Additional Steps:

  • Update Firmware and Drivers: Update the firmware on an HP printer
    • Outdated firmware or drivers might cause printing issues. Update them through the HP Smart app or HP's support website.

Let me know if you need help with specific steps!

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
