This topic is not new and there are several other older posting on this, but I wanted to bring it up again since I have not seen a clear answer as to why the paper tray extension cover no longer provided. I reviewed several different manufacturer wide format printer scanner products and decided on the HP Officejet Pro 7740. Part of my decision on purchasing this HP model was from looking at a display unit at my local OfficeDepot store which had the paper tray extension cover on paper tray 2. I ordered the printer directly from HP along with the 3 year care pack. The printer unit I received did not have the paper tray extension cover on paper tray 2. This unit is advertised as a pro model and is a wide format printer geared for printing and scanning A3 size paper. I specifically purchased this unit because I need to print and scan A3 documents. This unit does not look like a pro class unit after putting A3 paper in tray 2 beacuse the tray sticks out further than tray 1 and without the tray extension cover for tray 2 when A3 paper is loaded the unit looks distorted and as though tray 2 is not properly engaged. Not having the tray extension cover promotes paper jams of the A3 paper in tray 2 when someone thinks the tray needs to be pushed in because the tray and paper is exposed. If HP eliminated the tray extension cover because they are either cheapening the look and quality of their products or they were tired of consumer questions on how to load A3 paper in the tray. The price of this printer is over $300 and shame on HP for cutting corners. They should at least offer the tray extension cover as an accessory that can be purchased. I am not sure if I will ever purchase another HP product.

Hi @niacad ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand You're right, the lack of a paper tray extension cover on the HP Officejet Pro 7740 for tray 2 is a point of confusion.
- The design has changed: It appears HP removed the extension cover on newer models.
- Functionality remains: Even without the cover, tray 2 should function normally for A3 paper printing.
- Aesthetics and dust protection: The cover does provide a more finished look and protects the tray from dust accumulation.
Here are some possible explanations and next steps:
- Cost-cutting: HP may have eliminated the cover to reduce production costs.
- Focus on functionality: They might prioritize functionality over aesthetics.
