@86m, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding paper jam issue!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It’s definitely annoying when your scanner lid won’t close properly—especially after dealing with a paper jam. It sounds like something may be slightly misaligned or stuck, causing the lid to resist that satisfying click shut.

Let’s try these steps to help get things back in place:

Power Off & Unplug:
First, turn off your printer and unplug it. This helps avoid any accidental movement or damage while checking.

Check for Obstructions:
Look closely around the hinges, paper path, and under the scanner lid. Even a tiny torn piece of paper or a misaligned spring can stop the lid from closing flat.

Inspect the Hinges:
Gently move the lid up and down. Do you feel resistance or hear any clicking? If so, one of the hinges might be stuck or popped out slightly. Press lightly near the hinges to see if it re-seats.

Remove and Reattach the Lid (If Applicable):
Some models allow the scanner lid to be removed and reattached. If yours does, try lifting it off gently and then placing it back to see if that resets the alignment.

Check for Jammed Paper Inside the Top Cover:
Even if it looks clear, sometimes a piece of paper can fold and lodge under the edge or behind the control panel. Run your fingers gently along the inner seams.

Restart the Printer:
Plug it back in, turn it on, and gently try closing the lid again — sometimes a power cycle can reset internal alignment.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
