Hello I have just bought an office jet pro 9025 and have a question.I'm looking to print on cardstock and have heard to just use the top try. I only put a few pages in and the first one always gets stuck. Will the 9025 not handle cardstock?

OK.

Paper might be too thick.

Selection - for example, Media type, source, and paper size - is most of what you can do in the various software and / or print applications.

The rest is up to the printer.

If the paper is within the specified weight limitations, try a different paper type.

What you can select depends on which printer software you are installed and which software / application you are using to view and submit the job to the printer.

So - what is wrong?

No way to tell looking in from the outside.

In general, the specifications are accurate.

Some places to check:

  • If your paper is marginally outside - or even just inside - the weight limit, it may not work.
  • If the paper is heavier than allowed, it likely won't work no matter what you do to it.
  • If your Media selection is incorrect, it may not work.
  • If your Media selection is correct, it might be allowable to choose another Media similar but different than the one you are using.
  • If your Full Feature Software is not installed, your options are fewer than they are with the full driver installed.
  • If the Media selected is not compatible with the size of the paper, it may not work - and / or you will have to create a Custom Paper Size form.

Thanks for the help Dragon-Fur. Will try to play with the software a little more. We did get some normal cardstock to work the stuff that didn't work was slicker then normal. It was probably just the paper and not the printer.

@Brad05

You are welcome.

"Slick" might not be particularly good on card paper - the printer might tolerate it.

HP Brochure paper is typically 180 gsm - the printer supports Brochure paper in both matte and glossy.

If your card paper is somewhere in the weight "neighborhood" of 180 gsm, try Brochure as your Media type.

If the paper is "shiny", or at least "not matte", try Media type Brochure glossy.

If you have not done so, do consider installing the Full Feature Software.

I purchased one of these printers (9025) when they were introduced.  It is, in my opinion, a nice printer.

Great thanks again I'll make sure we have the full software installed.

If the problem is with the picking up only, this method below is what I used with my previous 8600 Pro.  I haven't had a chance to try it on my 9025 yet.  The method is not convenient if you need print a lot card stock paper though.

Extending the upper tray to legal size position. The idea is that you can use your finger (nail) though the exposed opening to push the cardstock paper a bit at the the time it is being picked up until it is picked up.
