Most common cause on an older printer is dirty or worn pickup rollers. YouTube has many videos on how to change the pickup roller on this style of printer. You could try cleaning the roller first with a lint free damp cloth to see if the situation improves, but often the rubber has glazed and will not grab paper properly and replacement is likely the best solution.
