Hi @edgy51,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the paper tray of your HP Envy 6155e printer does not close completely, it might be due to one of the following reasons.

Check for Obstructions:

  • Ensure there are no pieces of paper, debris, or foreign objects stuck in the paper tray slot or mechanism.
  • Remove the tray and inspect both the tray and printer cavity for anything that might be blocking it.

Inspect Paper Alignment:

  • Verify that the paper is properly aligned within the tray. If the paper is misaligned, it can prevent the tray from closing fully.
  • Ensure the paper guides are snug against the paper stack without bending or crumpling it.

Verify Tray Components:

  • Look for any broken or loose parts on the tray itself. A bent or damaged part can interfere with proper closure.
  • Check for any clips or tabs that might be stuck or out of place.

Remove and Reinsert the Tray:

  • Gently pull the tray out and then reinsert it, ensuring it slides smoothly along the guides.
  • Sometimes removing and reseating the tray can help if it was misaligned.

Check for Alignment Tabs or Rails:

  • Ensure the alignment tabs or rails on the tray match up with the slots in the printer.
  • If these are misaligned, the tray will not close properly.

Inspect for Warping:

  • Examine the tray for any signs of warping or bending, which can happen due to heat, pressure, or improper handling. If warped, the tray might need replacement.

Update the Printer Firmware:

  • While unlikely, firmware issues can occasionally cause problems with sensors related to the paper tray. Ensure your printer firmware is up to date.

Perform a Reset:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in and power it on. Retry closing the tray.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
