Hi @tmariecash
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It’s frustrating when a brand-new printer starts jamming right away! Paper jams in the HP Smart Tank 5000 can be caused by misaligned paper, dust buildup, or internal feed issues. Here’s what you can try:
1. Check for Jammed Paper
- Open the input tray, output tray, and printhead access area.
- Remove any stuck paper carefully—pull it straight out to avoid tearing.
- If needed, open the bottom cleanout door to check for hidden jams.
2. Clean the Paper Feed Rollers
- Dust and debris can cause feeding issues.
- HP has a guide on cleaning the rollers manually here.
3. Use the Correct Paper Type
- Ensure you’re using HP-recommended paper.
- Avoid wrinkled, damp, or curled paper.
4. Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer and unplug it for 30 seconds.
- Plug it back in and try printing again.
5. Watch a Repair Guide
- HP’s official paper jam troubleshooting video walks through the steps visually. You can watch it here.
Let me know if any of these steps help!
