Hi @lucero88,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
A carriage jam message on your printer indicates that the print carriage, which moves the ink cartridges back and forth, is obstructed or not functioning properly. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve a carriage jam issue:
1. Power Off and Unplug the Printer
Turn Off the Printer:
- Power down the printer using the power button.
Unplug the Printer:
- Disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet to ensure safety.
2. Inspect for Obstructions
Open the Printer:
- Open the printer’s top or front cover to access the ink cartridges and carriage.
Check for Jammed Paper:
- Look for any paper stuck inside the printer, especially around the carriage area. Remove any paper you find.
Remove Foreign Objects:
- Check for any foreign objects, such as paper clips or bits of paper, that might be obstructing the carriage. Remove them carefully.
3. Manually Move the Carriage
Move the Carriage:
- Gently move the print carriage to the center of the printer. It should move smoothly from side to side. Avoid forcing it.
Check for Obstructions:
- Ensure there is nothing blocking the carriage path. If the carriage does not move freely, look for any visible issues like obstructions or mechanical problems.
4. Check Ink Cartridges
- Carefully remove the ink cartridges from their slots.
- Check the cartridges for any damage or blockage. Ensure they are not leaking or otherwise obstructing the carriage.
- Reinstall the ink cartridges into their slots, making sure they are seated correctly.
5. Reset the Printer
- Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.
- Power on the printer and check if the carriage jam message has cleared.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
