1. Ensure Proper Closure:

  • Fully remove the paper tray and reinsert it, ensuring it clicks into place correctly. Sometimes the tray might not be fully engaged, leading to this error.

2. Check for Obstructions:

  • Remove the paper tray and check for any debris or packing materials that might be obstructing the tray from closing completely.

3. Verify Paper Load:

  • Ensure that the paper is loaded properly and not exceeding the tray’s capacity. Adjust the paper guides snugly against the edges of the stack without bending the paper.

4. Inspect the Tray:

  • Examine the paper tray for any physical damages or misalignments that may prevent it from closing properly. If possible, compare it with an image of an unbroken tray from the HP website.

5. Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug the power cord, wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and restart to reset any temporary errors.

6. Firmware Update:

  • Ensure your printer firmware is up to date by connecting to the HP Smart app or visiting the HP Support website for the latest updates.

7. Recheck Sensor:

  • Sometimes, the sensor that detects the paper tray might be dirty or misaligned. Carefully check for anything that looks out of place or needs cleaning.
