Hi @hbowen23,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Error 0x6100004a on an HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer typically indicates a problem with the printhead. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue.

  • Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 1-2 minutes, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Check for Obstructions: Even if there's no visible paper jam, there might be a small piece of debris or paper causing the issue. Open the printer's access door and inspect for any obstructions around the printhead area.
  • Reset the Printhead: Sometimes, resetting the printhead can help. Open the printer's access door, wait for the printhead carriage to move to the center, then unplug the printer while the carriage is in the center. Leave it unplugged for a minute or two, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Update Firmware: Check if there's a firmware update available for your printer model. Sometimes, firmware updates can fix known issues.
  • Remove and Reinsert Printhead: If the printhead is removable, carefully remove it and then reinsert it back into its slot. Make sure it's securely seated.
  • Clean Printhead Contacts: If you're comfortable, you can try cleaning the electrical contacts on the printhead and the printer carriage. Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
