Hi @LynnM54,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
A paper jam error can indeed be caused by a buckled or misplaced part inside the printer. The white strip you're referring to might be part of the printer's internal mechanism, possibly the encoder strip or another component.
Here are some steps you can take to address this issue:
Inspect and Clear the Jam
Turn off the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
Access the Inside of the Printer:
- Open the printer's access door to locate the paper path.
- Gently remove any visible jammed paper or debris. Ensure that no torn pieces of paper are left inside.
Check the White Strip:
- Inspect the white strip that is buckled. If it's part of the printer's internal mechanism, it should be securely in place.
- If it is out of place, try to gently reposition it.
Identify the White Strip
Encoder Strip:
- The encoder strip is a clear or white strip with fine lines, running horizontally inside the printer. It helps the printer determine the position of the print head. If this strip is dirty, damaged, or out of place, it can cause errors.
Paper Guide or Sensor Strip:
- It could also be a part of the paper path mechanism or a sensor strip that helps detect paper presence.
Reposition or Replace the Strip
Reposition the Strip:
- If the strip appears to be out of place, try to carefully reposition it. Ensure it is straight and securely in its tracks.
Clean the Strip:
- If the strip is dirty, use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently clean it.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
