HP DeskJet 4155e All-in-One Printer

Trying to print.  Cartridges installed correctly.  Message:  Out of paper.  Paper is full.  Then it says to close paper tray.  What tray, the tray that the paper comes out of with the lip to hold the paper?

I must admit I am so frustrated with this whole thing.

Hi @MaryEllenL,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your frustration. Let's try to troubleshoot this issue with your HP DeskJet 4155e printer.

  • Check Paper Tray: The paper tray is usually at the front or bottom of the printer, where you load the paper. Make sure the paper is loaded correctly into this tray. Sometimes, printers can have multiple trays or areas where paper needs to be loaded.
  • Paper Alignment: Ensure that the paper guides in the tray are adjusted correctly to fit the size of the paper you're using (usually letter or A4 size). Improper alignment of the guides can cause the printer to think there's no paper or that the tray is not closed.
  • Paper Type and Condition: Verify that the paper you're using is not curled, wrinkled, or too thick. Sometimes, paper that doesn't meet the printer's specifications can cause feeding issues.
  • Restart Printer: Turn off the printer, wait for about 30 seconds, and then turn it back on. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary glitches.
  • Check for Paper Jams: Even if it says "Out of paper," there might be a small piece of paper stuck inside the printer. Open the printer and check for any jams, and clear them if present.
  • Update Firmware: Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. You can usually check for updates through the printer's control panel or HP's official website.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
