Hi @KMurphy2,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP ENVY 6055e All-in-One Printer isn't picking up paper from the tray and is indicating that the paper tray is empty, here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot the issue:

Check the Paper Tray:

  • Make sure the paper is correctly loaded in the tray and that it's aligned properly. The paper should not be overfilled and should be flat without any curls or bends.
  • Ensure the paper is not jammed or obstructing the paper feed mechanism.

Check Paper Settings:

  • Make sure the paper size and type settings in the printer settings match the paper in the tray. Sometimes, incorrect settings can cause issues.

Clean the Paper Feed Rollers:

  • Dust or paper debris on the feed rollers can prevent the printer from picking up paper. To clean the rollers:
    • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
    • Open the printer's access door to reveal the paper feed rollers.
    • Gently clean the rollers with a lint-free cloth moistened with water (or use a specialized cleaning cloth if available). Avoid using any harsh chemicals.

Reset the Printer:

  • Perform a hard reset to clear any errors:
    1. Turn off the printer.
    2. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet and the printer.
    3. Wait for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn on the printer.

Check for Paper Jams:

  • Look for any paper that might be stuck inside the printer, especially near the rollers or paper feed path.

Firmware Update: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. Sometimes a software glitch can cause paper tray detection issues, and updating the firmware might help resolve it.

Try a Different Paper:

  • If the paper you're using is very thin or too thick, it could cause problems with feeding. Try using a different type of paper (standard printer paper) to see if the issue persists.

Reposition the Paper Tray:

  • Remove the paper tray, ensure that it's properly seated in the printer, and then reinsert it to see if this resolves the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Gaya1239 responded to my problem.  I followed the steps; the printer printed 2 pages for me, then gave the message to refill the tray (which was full), then refused to print.  I rebooted, moved all the paper out of the tray, then refilled the tray and it printed 2 more pages.  Then stopped printing.
