Hi @colinconfounded,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP printer is displaying an "out of paper" error message even though the paper tray is full, there could be several reasons why this is happening. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.

  • Check the paper tray: Make sure the paper is loaded correctly in the paper tray. Ensure that the paper is not jammed or stuck, and that it is loaded in the correct orientation.
  • Check the paper type and size: Ensure that the paper size and type are compatible with your printer. Make sure the paper is not too thick, too thin, or curled.
  • Clean the paper feed rollers: Over time, dust and debris can accumulate on the paper feed rollers, causing them to slip and not pick up the paper correctly. You can clean the rollers using a lint-free cloth and water or isopropyl alcohol.
  • Reset the printer: Try resetting the printer by turning it off and unplugging it from the power source for a few minutes. Then, plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Update the printer driver: Ensure that you have the latest printer driver installed on your computer. You can download the latest driver from the HP website.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
