@billybobo, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If the top of your HP OfficeJet 9015 printer won’t open and you’re trying to clear a paper jam, here’s a step-by-step guide to help you get access and remove the jam safely:

🛠️ Step-by-Step: Clear a Paper Jam (Top Lid Won’t Open)

🔹 1. Power Off and Unplug

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord and any USB/network cables.
  • Wait 60 seconds to let the internal parts reset.

🔹 2. Open the Rear Access Door (or Rear Duplexer)

  • Go to the back of the printer.
  • Locate and gently pull the rear access door or duplexer (it may have side latches or tabs).
  • Check for jammed paper and gently pull it out, avoiding tearing.

🔹 3. Access the Printhead Area from the Front

Even though the top cover (scanner unit) seems stuck, you might be trying to open the wrong panel. Try this:

  • Place your fingers under the front edge of the scanner lid (not the whole scanner bed).
  • Lift from the notch in the center or side—it should tilt upward, exposing the ink carriage and jammed paper.
  • Be firm but gentle—don’t force it if it’s truly stuck.
  • Note: On the OfficeJet 9015, the scanner lid lifts like a car hood, not hinged like a book.

🔹 4. Clear the Jam from Inside

  • Once opened, check the printhead carriage area.
  • Look for any jammed paper or torn pieces and remove carefully.

🔹 5. Check the Input Tray

  • Remove all paper from the main input tray.
  • Use a flashlight to look up inside and see if any paper is stuck feeding in from below.

🔹 6. Check for Obstructions or Misfed Paper

  • Remove any foreign objects (like paper clips or labels).
  • Make sure nothing is blocking the print carriage from moving side to side.

After Clearing the Jam

  • Close all doors properly.
  • Plug the printer back in and power it on.
  • Try a test print.

Still Can't Open the Top?

If the top absolutely won't budge:

  • Don’t force it—it may be latched or blocked internally by paper.
  • Try accessing via the HP Smart App or printer screen to run a “Printer Maintenance” or “Clear Paper Jam” diagnostic.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
