Removing a Paper Jam from HP Smart Tank 580 All-in-One Printer

When a piece of paper is stuck in your HP Smart Tank 580 All-in-One Printer, it can cause an error, commonly indicated by an exclamation mark on the printer display. Here is a step-by-step guide to help you resolve this issue:

1. Turn Off the Printer

  1. Press the power button to turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the outlet and the back of the printer.

2. Remove Paper Jam from Input Tray

  1. Open the input tray.
  2. Check for any stuck paper in the input tray and gently remove it.

3. Remove Paper Jam from Output Tray

  1. Open the output tray.
  2. Carefully remove any stuck paper from the output tray.

4. Check Inside the Printer

  1. Open the front door to access the inside of the printer.
  2. Carefully inspect the print carriage area for any stuck pieces of paper.
  3. If you find any jammed paper, gently pull it out in the direction of the paper path. Ensure you do not tear the paper.

5. Check and Clear Ink Tank Area

  1. Ensure all ink tank caps are securely closed.
  2. Check around the ink tanks for any stray pieces of paper and remove them.

6. Restart the Printer

  1. Plug the power cord back into the printer and the outlet.
  2. Turn on the printer and check if the exclamation mark error is resolved.

Additional Tips

  • Always pull the paper gently to avoid tearing it and causing further jams.
  • Ensure that the paper size and type settings in the printer match the paper you are using to prevent future jams.

After performing these steps, your HP Smart Tank 580 printer should return to normal operation without any exclamation errors related to paper jams.
