Hi @DocLo,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP OfficeJet 6978 printer is reporting a document feeder jam but there's nothing visibly stuck in it, here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue.
Power Cycle the Printer:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 1-2 minutes.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Check for Jammed Paper:
- Open the document feeder cover and visually inspect for any small pieces of paper or debris that may be causing the jam. Use a flashlight if needed.
- Gently remove any paper or debris that you find. Ensure there are no torn pieces left behind.
Reset the Printer:
- Sometimes resetting the printer to its default settings can resolve minor issues.
- Locate the reset option in the printer's menu or consult the printer's manual for instructions on how to perform a reset.
Clean the Rollers:
- Paper feed issues can sometimes be caused by dirty rollers.
- Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water to clean the rollers. Ensure they are dry before reinserting them into the printer.
Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers:
- Outdated or corrupted printer drivers can sometimes cause issues.
- Update the printer drivers to the latest version. You can download them from the HP website or use the HP Support Assistant tool.
Check for Firmware Updates:
- Firmware updates can include bug fixes and improvements.
- Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer and install them according to the HP instructions.
By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the document feeder jam issue on your HP OfficeJet 6978 printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
