Check the pick up roller carefully to see if it is worn or dirty. This issue can also be caused by a sticking pickup solenoid, there are many videos on YouTube that show how to deal with that problem It can also be a setting issue, such as having the paper size settings on the printer set to legal but having letter paper loaded in the printer.
