I don't remember putting a user name or password on initial setup.  Now I can't do anything without them so I need to add them.  Then I need to add either Win 11  or HP software to connect the printer to an HP Laptop. (MS wiped out their original 3rd party software last week)

Hi @Dooner1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I am sorry to hear that you can get your HP LaserJet Pro 3201dw working again and resolve the username/password issue: I would request you to please follow the steps:

Resetting Printer Credentials

  • Check Default Credentials: Sometimes, printers use default usernames and passwords, such as "admin" for both fields or being left blank. Check the printer's manual for these details.
  • Printer Reset: If you're still unable to access it, consider performing a factory reset on the printer. This can usually be done through the printer's control panel. Please refer to the user manual for specific instructions.

Reinstalling HP Software

  • Since your laptop software was wiped:
  • Download HP Printer Software:
  • Go to the HP Support website.
  • Search for your printer model "3201DW" to find the specific driver and software downloads.
    Install on Windows 11:
  • Download and install the appropriate drivers for Windows 11 from the HP website.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation and set up your printer.

Connecting the Printer

  • USB Connection: If your printer is connected via USB, ensure that the cable is firmly connected to both the printer and the laptop.
  • Add a Printer:
  • Open Settings on your Windows 11 laptop.
  • Navigate to Devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Click on Add a printer or scanner. The system should detect your printer automatically if it’s properly connected.

Firmware Update

  • After installation, check for firmware updates in HP Smart.
  • Updating firmware often resolves login/password issues and improves compatibility with Windows 11.

Take care and have an amazing day!
