Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Just spent over an hour on the phone with the outsourced tech support trying to get an answer about setting up a custom paper size on an hp printer. They did not understand the issue despite repeated attempts. The printer manual say it can be done.  Page 41. Though the method described in the manual does not exist. The tech also said it cannot, though for different reasons. Because the toner was low. Then because it was a photoshop image. Then because it was a browser image.

Can it be done or not? Can the Laserjet Pro 200 M251NW have a 4x6 (or 101mmx152mm) custom paper size created?

Hi,

Apologies for jumping in unannounced, 10 X 15 / 6 X 4 photo paper is a supported size.

From your screenshot I could see that you use a Generic class driver from Microsoft and not the latest manufacturer driver, this is likely the cause:

If the printer is connected with USB please unplug it now and do not plug it back till prompt to do so while installing, then follow below steps regardless of its connectivity type used.

From the Start menu select Settings (Gear icon) > Devices > Printers & Scanners, select your printer and then click Remove Device and confirm to remove the printer.

Now download and install its latest software and check for any difference then, I believe the latest driver should resolve the problem:

Thank you for the fast reply DFur.

There is no "custom" button available in the print dialog box.

This button does not existThis button does not existSelecting 4x6 in HP Smart does nothingSelecting 4x6 in HP Smart does nothing4x6 is not a print option in any app4x6 is not a print option in any app
There is a 4x6 paper size setting in the HP Smart app but it does nothing. It has no effect anywhere.

4x6 is not an option in selectable paper sizes in any application despite the HP Smart app saying "any size" paper can be used.

You are welcome.

If the Custom Size form is not in Preferences > Shortcuts, then the software does not support this method.

Try Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Click Printer to select > along the top ribbon > Print Server Properties

The EWS image (if that is what that is) displays the standard paper size list (as it should do).

For those reading -- IF the laser printer setup is similar to the InkJet...

  • EWS (Embedded Web Server) >> If the size you intend to use is not on the list, select "Custom"
  • Device Settings, even when displaying the full solution driver setup, do not typically list Custom Paper forms.
  • Find Custom Paper Size forms (after they are created and accepted by the full driver) in Preferences > Shortcuts

Your Properties image appears to indicate you are using a class driver instead of the full driver printer software.

If that is true, Class drivers typically do not provide access to all printer features.

I think I cannot help further.

For all I know what you are doing is correct for your full driver and your printer.

This would not be the first time I stumbled on a Laser Printer setup.

Withdrawing with grace.

Example - Compare Device Settings - "HP" named driver (full solution software) and Microsoft Class driver

@ShlomiL

Thanks for the confirmation.

It certainly looked like the driver in Properties is wrong for the purpose.

@Matt_92119

OK -- @ShlomiL  has confirmed that your "Properties" driver is not the driver expected when the full solution software is installed and the correct driver is selected in Properties > Advanced.

Expect better results if you

1)  Install the Full Solution Software:  HP LaserJet Pro 200 color M251 Series Full Feature Software and Drivers

2) Select the "HP" named driver in Printer Properties (and not the "Class" driver)
