6 month free trial of instant ink

I have spent an hour on the pbone to HP this morning trying to set up my printer.  O was told to sign in for the instant ink, which i did. I chose my plan entered details etc. The person on the pbone said i had lost my 6 month trial and extra 1 year warranty. Why? I dont how to put the printer claim code in.
